Appa Finds a Family to Love Him! - Liz M.

Appa was found by a Good Samaritan in a wooded reserve in Essex County NJ. He was unable to stand and was partially frozen to the ground. Even the most experienced people in animal welfare were "taken aback" by the state of this sweet boy. MTAS staff immediately rushed him to our vet who began the treatment process by warming his body. His recovery began with small frequent hand-fed meals daily. The staff fed him 8 times a day for the first two weeks! Fortunately, his bloodwork was fine. But given that good news, there was no reason for his condition except outright neglect. He rehabbed for almost 6 months, regaining his stamina and muscle mass. Appa made a full recovery and found his loving forever-home. Thank you to Subaru for all your support for animals just like Appa

Our Rock Star - JOY C.

May 9, 2018 is a day that we will never forget. Our sweet six year old boy, Mason lost his ability to sit, stand or walk on his own. We brought him to our pediatrician who immediately said get him to Goryeb Children’s Hospital right away. Mason was admitted and spent over a week there enduring countless tests to figure out why he lost his ability to sit, stand and walk on his own. He required an MRI to rule out tumors and a spinal tap just to name a few. The nurses and doctors at Goryeb Children’s Hospital were so kind, caring and really worked so hard to cheer Mason up. They brought in therapy dogs, massage therapy and brought gifts every day. As with each day that passed, Mason began to emotionally feel very down and not being able to be home took a toll on him. We are forever grateful to all the medical team who helped diagnose Mason, which turned out to be Acute Cerebellar Ataxia. Mason was discharged to intense rehabilitation therapy and after a few months of his hard work and determination through physical therapy and occupational therapy he learned how to walk, write and run again. We are elated to celebrate Mason who is now a happy and healthy 11 year old. His road to recovery was never easy but he is a fighter- and our rock star and we are grateful to Open Road Subaru for choosing Goryeb Childrens Hospital in Morristown, NJ as their local charity.

Thank you Camp Nejeda ! - Brian E.

Finding out about my diagnosis was something that had changed my life and my family's. I was not even in high school yet and I had to come to terms with something that changed my life forever. That very summer of my diagnosis I went to Camp Nejeda and it was an experience that changed my life completely. I felt normal and seen. Camp Nejeda, I cannot thank you enough for helping me through one of the most difficult summers of my life. My family had always driven Subarus, from my mother, to my sister and now myself. Seeing that Nejeda was one of the donations they've done made my heart fill with pride. Thank you Open Road Subaru !

Helping the Community - Tiffany O.

My brother has always been my go-to through all my difficult times. A while ago he went through one of the most traumatic and difficult times, stuck in a coma for over a month. One of the main reasons for his recovery was only made possible because of the blood donation drives and all those who donated at Morristown Hospital including Open Road Subaru. I can personally thank you for supporting a hospital who's saving lives everyday, including my brothers.

Draco finds a Furvever home! - Liz M.

Draco was found as a stray this past summer and started his shelter life in Tennessee. In August, when he was just 4 months old, he was transferred to MTAS, malnourished and with front bowed legs. We immediately took him to the vet for blood work and X-rays of his legs. The blood work showed no apparent issues, but his leg X-rays were inconclusive. The initial recommendation was to begin feeding him three times a day and to take him on slow and steady leash walks. We've seen this type of orthopedic issue over the years. It's usually seen with a puppy that has not had proper nutrition and has had his movement restricted (likely confined to a cage for much more time than is healthy). We began to see changes within three weeks. His legs are now 95% better and he never missed a beat during the process! Draco attended an event locally and a family fell madly in love with him. The adoption was finalized in early November, and he now has a fur sister and is living happily every after with his new owner (the photo says it all: “I’m home”!). ** Since the beginning of the pandemic, the shelter hasn't participated in any official adoption events, but will occasionally bring an animal or two to the local farmers market or other outdoor gathering. This was the case with Draco, where he found his forever family at an event held outdoors at Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, NJ.

Gabriella's Story - Elizabeth M.

Gabriella is a senior Min Pin mix who lost her home after her primary owner passed away. After arriving at a shelter in TN, which soon became overcrowded, she was transferred to Montclair Township Animal Shelter in NJ in early October. Gabby was terrified entering the shelter. We quickly created a space in a small quiet room and gave her "clamshell" type bedding to help her burrow and feel safe.Within a few short days, her charming personality began to bloom. She is sweet and loving she just wanted to be held by any staff member or volunteer she came in contact with.We noticed that Gabby was only eating soft canned food. Upon her full exam, we discovered her teeth were in bad shape and severely infected. Gabby had years of medical neglect that required every tooth to be extracted. She came through the procedure with flying colors and made a full recovery. Subaru's generosity helped cover the cost of this medical procedure and gave Gabby a shot at a long healthy life. She left the shelter in mid-November as a happy girl, ready to settle down in her new furever home!

Expansion of Goryeb Children's Hospital - Julie K.

Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ, got a special visit from Open Road’s chairman Rod Ryan and president Michael Morais in April 2019, when they presented a check for $47,250! The donation is supporting the expansion of Goryeb’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Valerie Children’s Center for pediatric cancer and blood disorders. Open Road’s contribution is helping to ensure that critically-ill children from throughout the state can receive the highest level of care when they need it most. Construction on the new PICU is underway and is expected to be completed by September 2019. The unit is doubling in size and increasing the number of patient beds to 15, to allow care for over 600 critically-ill children each year. Work to expand the pediatric cancer center will begin in October, and will handle over 4,500 outpatient visits each year. Thank you, Open Road Subaru, for generously supporting the Goryeb Children’s Hospital expansion project! Open Road Subaru does NOT help people!! - Billy M.

This was the worst experience of our life at this dealership!!!! We were promised an $800 reduction on the vehicle we chose because I made contact on line and set up an appt to come in. Once I said we were paying outright for the car I was told we’d get an additional $500 credit. I spoke to two different gentlemen who said they were managers to tell them our intention was to ship the car out of the country immediately and we were using this dealership rather than our local Subaru dealership in Nassau County, NY because our shipper was literally 10 minutes down the road. We discussed several times in different phone conversations that since our new vehicle was going to be flat-bedded to the shipper we didn’t have to pay any US taxes. Well, lo and behold we get there and not only are they not honoring our combined $1300 reduction on the vehicle we were told we must pay the almost $2400 in taxes. Supposedly some new law went into effect in the two weeks since we’ve been communicating. So guess what???? Open Road Subaru lost out on a $30,000 sale. I guess they cN afford it since they didn’t want to work with us. Very sad!!!!

Blanket Doantion Delivery to St. Joe's - Michelle E.

Open Road Subaru delivered a donation of blankets and craft kits to St. Joe's hospital in Paterson on Friday, July 21st. The experience was amazing and both the Subaru employees and pediatric patients at the hospital enjoyed the visit. Several Subaru employees came for the delivery and Shannon from St. Joe's was eager to bring us to the pediatric unit. There was a patient named Carlos waiting for us and he was so happy to be part of the delivery. Carlos did not speak English very well but the light in his eyes and smile when he was handed a blanket said it all. He took pictures with the Subaru employees and thanked them numerous times. We were also able to hand deliver blankets to the other patients on the floor and Paul Seeto from Subaru was invited to decorate a magnet to hang on their visitor wall. Without a doubt you could see the impact that this donation was having on the patients at St. Joe's.
